Difficulties in Adjusting to a Raw Food Diet High blood pressure, thick blood, venous ailments and similar conditions, demand a change in the viscosity of the blood and this can be accomplished by following a protein-reduced diet. Meat, cheese, eggs and other protein foods have to be cut down to a minimum in such cases. However, it is not always easy to change over to a fruit diet. Elderly people in particular are likely to be troubled because gastric acid does not always mix well with the acids found in fruit. When changing over to a fruit diet it is of prime importance to eat very slowly, insalivate the fruit and fruit juices thoroughly and eat some crispbread, wholewheat rusks, oatmeal biscuits, toast or any other flakes or wholegrain crackers or biscuits, as the starch contained in them will help to neutralise the acids, rendering them more acceptable to the stomach.
